CMI Wales/Cymru facilitates and supports professional development and networking for CMI members who live and/or work in Wales. The volunteers who form our Board are all members within the nation who believe passionately in the vision, mission and values of CMI and the importance of excellent leadership and management for all individuals and organisations.
Our focus at CMI is on preventing ‘accidental management’, at some time in your career you may have found yourself promoted to manage other people without the necessary experience, technical skills or support. CMI provides professional training and development to make sure we become competent and confident leaders and get the best from our teams and ourselves.
The CMI Wales volunteer Board works closely with the CMI national executive and our fellow Regional Boards, we have also forged strong links with other professional bodies based in Wales, higher and further education institutions, employers and other community partners, all aligned to CMI’s Professional Standard. We are a growing network committed to organising relevant events, sharing best practice and information for the benefit of you, our local members.

Andrew has over 15 years of professional accounting experience within in the energy industry. Responsible for leading and delivering budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and working capital management. Currently, Andrew is a member of Senior Management Team in his role as Finance & Procurement Manager for First Hydro Company. The business owns and operates two pumped storage stations at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in the Snowdonia region of Wales and has delivered an annual operating profit in excess of £100m for the past several years. As an aspiring Financial Director, Andrew currently managers all finance and procurement activities at First Hydro Company as well as several engineering teams which span IT, civil, mechanical, electrical and C&I disciplines.
Andrew is an associate member of both Chartered Management Institute (CMI – MCMI) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA – ACMA, CGMA) and holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting from the University of Central Lancashire.
The CMI qualification has given Andrew a wider appreciation of what it takes to lead a business and he looks forward to continuing his professional development with the organisation.
Kath has been a member and Companion of the CMI for many years and in 2021 is honoured to accept the position of Chair of the CMI Wales, Cymru Board.
Kath’s mission is to unlock potential and to build the reputation of careers in hospitality, a sector she believes has a critical role to play in aiding social mobility. She works with various bodies to develop hospitality Apprenticeships and qualifications from entry to MBA. Kath has a diverse experience of leadership in both global and small local businesses. Kath is currently both a Director of Pizza Hut Restaurants UK, and along with her husband Pete, involved in growing and mentoring a number of local businesses in their home town of Cardigan, West Wales including the national award winning concept ‘Crwst’. Kath is also an NED for Bluestone National Park Resort.
Prior to the Hut, Kath worked for Yum Brands! and has also has over 10 years of experience in the financial sector. Kath started her career with British Airways and her early claim to fame was that she won ‘Young Cook of Great Britain’ and judged Junior Master Chef. Kath has been recognised as an industry leader awarded HR Magazine’s ‘HR Director of the Year’, ‘Most Influential’ & HR Excellence Awards ‘HRD of the Year’.
Emma has been a member of CMI since 2016 when she gained Chartered Manager status. Educated in Bristol and Manchester Universities she’s currently a Professional Development Expert at Corndel, delivering transformational leadership and management courses to senior business leaders across multiple sectors in the UK. Previously she worked as the Head of the Exploration & Development in an energy consultancy, where her team of geoscientists helped their clients find energy resources globally. Emma has extensive strategic leadership experience and is passionate about helping people to become the best leader they can be. She is also working towards completing her Executive Coaching Level 7 diploma.
Emma joined the board in the Communications and Social Mead lead position and looks to promote work that CMI does, in addition she has run a number of our events covering workplace wellbeing, employability and leading through change.
Dave Bolton is a Fellow of the IEEP, Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and of the Higher Education Academy. Having spent in excess of 20 years working in private industry, mainly in the fields of sales and marketing management, he decided to move into entrepreneurship setting up a successful electrical contracting business, as well as entering academia where he currently works in Swansea School of Management.
He is currently Director of Enterprise and Employability and Programme Director for the Swansea School of Management’s BSc Business Management undergraduates. In his spare time David enjoys cycling, running, reading and as a passionate Welshman, rugby.
Dr Clair Doloriert is Senior Lecturer at Bangor Business School and Head of Year 1 Undergraduates. Clair became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) in 2020 for her excellence and leadership in teaching and learning. Further to this she is a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI) and an Academic Associate of the CIPD (AACIPD). In the 2017 University Graduation Ceremony, Clair was recognised for her excellence and innovation in teaching, and was awarded a prestigious Bangor University Teaching Fellowship.
Clair is also the Academic Lead Academic for the CMI Level 7 Dual Accredited Postgraduate Degrees in Strategic Management & Leadership at Bangor Business School, and is passionate about championing the CMI in Wales Higher Education. Further to her role as Academic Lead for the CMI at the Business School, she is a moderator for undergraduate programmes in Business, Tourism and Events at Grwp Llandrillo Menai, ensuring high quality and rigor throughout Bangor validated programmes. Clair is enjoys collaborating with industry through research and doctoral supervision including recent/ current projects with organisations such as Siemens and First Hydro. One of Clair’s master’s students recently won CMI Student of the Year 2022, which was a hugely proud moment in her career.
Clair has held other leadership roles including the Head of the Business and Management subject group on the School Teaching and Learning Committee until January 2020. The Deputy Director for Centre for Business Research, Deputy/Senior Personal Tutor for all BBS students; the Quality Assurance and Validation Officer for all Bangor Business School Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes. Clair was the Programme Lead for all Travel, Tourism and Hsopitality programmes that are run by Bangor University’s MDIST partner institutions in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She completed a complex quadripartite project management and development of a suite of two new undergraduate programmes in International Travel, Tourism and Hospitality for MDIST. Clair is also involved with several other universities including Manchester Business School, Hull University Business School and Centrum Catolica, Lima Peru.
Catrin Jones is 28 years old and Co-Owner of Crwst, a café, deli and bakery based in Cardigan, Ceredigion. Catrin and partner, Osian, opened Crwst to create a special space for an unforgettable customer experience; from the food and service to the interior and atmosphere. Their main focus is the production of high-quality food and drink using the best of local produce and served to the highest level of friendly service. They are proud to bring a fresh and modern feel to their traditional home-town. Osian, being a chef and baker, is the driving force behind Crwst’s food and produce. Catrin manages the business side of things which includes team development, strategy, and finance.
3 years after opening their doors, Crwst is proud to have an array of awards under their belt. These include; UK’s Best Rural Start Up 2019; Most Welcoming Café South West Wales and most recently 3 Great Taste Awards for Osian’s sauces which includes their famous Pembrokeshire Sea Salted Caramel. Catrin has also been recognised for her skills, winning IOD’s Start Up Director of the Year 2019.
Gary is a high performing Organisational Development Practitioner, with a broad expertise in needs analysis, design, delivery and evaluation of interventions. Expert coach and mentor delivering focused, critical-friend style support to leaders at all levels in both large and small business environments.
He works with charity leaders across Wales in his role as a volunteer consultant with Cranfield Trust.
He is a strong advocate of raising the professional standard of leadership in Wales and in recent years has seen him speaking at student events with Future Leaders and events to encourage women into leadership roles to address the gender imbalance on boards and in business. He is a Chartered Manager Advisor and Assessor and works with experienced leaders to reach the highest professional accolade in leadership and management.
Gary stepped down as Chair of CMI Cymru/Wales, on 1st March 2021, after many years supporting CMI and leaders in Wales. He will remain as the Wales Board HE Education advisor.
An accomplished C-Level executive recognised for growing businesses, building high performing teams, and delivering improved results and mega projects for some of the world’s leading Fortune 500 engineering and construction companies. He brings a broad-based background in developed and emerging economies and both vertical and horizontal construction. This includes buildings, infrastructure, industrial and defence and security, high technology facilities, water and wastewater treatment, environmental solutions, transportation infrastructure as well as major programs and complex projects. A Chartered Engineer (CEng), he also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Civil Engineering from the University of South Wales, is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) and is also a Chartered Companion of the Chartered Management Institute (CMgr CCMI) and a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). Neil serves on several Boards as a Non-Executive Chairman, Director and Advisor in the private, public and third sector. He is also a STEM Ambassador and a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Water Conservators. When not working you will find him cycling that he also uses as a platform to raise money for cancer charities.
I am an Engineer by profession with a passion for Sales. I completed my Post Graduate degree from University of Warwick and have been working for a global conglomerate for over 17 years. My work experience spans across a number of industries mainly in the Engineering and Manufacturing sectors. I enjoy reading, listening to music and watching sports in my free time.
